Top 10 Tips For Joy
It is easy to get caught up in our materialistic society that equates feeling joyful and happy in life with acquiring material possessions. If we just have that new home, new car, new dress, etc, then we will be filled with joy...... or will we? When we do manage to purchase any of these material things, why is the associated joy and happiness usually so short-lived?
The answer is simple - the Heart and Soul are still lacking in Joy, only the mind or ego has temporary satisfaction until it needs the next 'fix' of obtaining more material possessions.
My work and passion is to help you awaken to more Heart and Soul Joy in your life, in simple, free or low-cost ways to make your Heart and Soul sing and feel truly alive.
My favourite Top 10 Tips to make your Heart and Soul sing with Joy:
1. An Attitude of Gratitude and Appreciation - Start and end every day by making a list in your mind or on in a journal of at least 5 things you are grateful for, no matter how small. It may be something as simple as your soft, warm bed or the sounds of birds outside. As you regularly focus more on all the good things you already have in your life your vibration will raise, allowing you to feel more joy in your daily life.
2. Spend Time in Nature - Go to a beautiful place in nature, such as a local park, garden, natural bushland, mountains, lake or seaside. Tune in to the energies of the trees, birds, native animals and water. Enjoy watching a sunrise or sunset in quiet contemplation or with friends. Standing in sunshine, feel energetic dross being transmuted from your energy field. Allow the energy of tall trees to drain any negativity from you.
3. Watch Children or Animals at Play - Find yourself totally involved in the moment as you watch the spontaneity and free flowing of emotions of children or animals at play. To distance yourself from any worrying thoughts, cuddle, play with or watch a happy animal. Their curiosity and delight engross you instantly.
4. Daily Laughter - Laughing exercises more muscles in the face than anything else and feels so good you just want to do more. Watch or read something funny on a regular basis to uplift your mood. A good belly laugh is a great way of relieving pent-up stress. Practise laughing for 10 minutes a day. Even if you don't think you have anything funny in your life, just watch yourself trying to laugh and you will find the ridiculousness of your attempt will trigger you into genuine laughter. Consider joining a local laughter group.
5. Fun Times with Friends - Schedule in regular time to reconnect with your social network, whether it be by phone, email, or going out together. Good friends can be our free therapist, our laughter buddy and a chance to just relax and switch off from daily challenges.
6. Reward Yourself for Achieving Goals - Each time you reach a pre-determined goal, no matter how small, reward yourself with a special treat that nourishes mind and body - perhaps a movie, going out to dinner, catching up with a friend, gulit-free downtime or visiting a special place. For the effort you have given out you are now allowing yourself to receive back, which is a powerful act of self-love.
7. Let Your Inner Child Play - It is too easy to believe that as an adult you must always be serious, disciplined and responsible. How boring! What does your inner child, that playful part inside you, want to do to have some harmless fun? Is it swinging in the park, dancing, watching cartoons, playing a game, eating a favourite food from childhood? Relax, let you inner child out to play on a regular basis and feel the joy in your life.
8. Forgive Yourself and Others - The longer you hold onto unforgiveness of those you perceive have wronged you, the more the corrosive effect it has on your mind and physical body. You have already been hurt by someone else, do you now want to compound that hurt by damaging yourself emotionally or physically? Chances are the person who has wronged you has forgotten all about it, so the only person you are hurting by holding onto unforgiveness is yourself. Practice forgiveness on a regular basis, knowing that the gift of forgiveness is for yourself. Forgive yourself for all the hurt and other emotions you have been holding onto that have been damaging you and then visualise bundling it all up and letting it go.
9. Eat Nourishing Food as close to its natural state as possible - What we eat influences our moods and behaviours far more than most of us realise. For instance, many people feel heavy, lethargic and energetically-flat after eating wheat-based foods. Eating chocolate can give you a quick high, which is quickly replaced by mild depression, causing you to seek another chocolate 'fix'. The conglomeration of additives, artificial colours, flavourings and preservatives found in the majority of packaged foods challenge our good mood and our immune system. Endeavour to eat fresh food and prepare meals yourself with basic, recognizable ingredients, organic if possible.
10. Try Something New - What have you had in the back of your mind that you would like to try - maybe painting, salsa dancing, enrolling in a personal development course or anything else that catches your interest? Just do it, let your creative juices flow and feel your spirits soar!

Should You Live for Your Résumé?
Within each of us are two selves, suggests David Brooks in this meditative short talk: the self who craves success, who builds a résumé, and the self who seeks connection, community, love — the values that make for a great eulogy. Brooks asks: Can we balance these two selves?

Forgiveness is Such Sweet Sorrow
Hurt comes in many forms. Some instances come at us like an arrow from the bow; we see it coming but cannot avoid the hit fast enough. Other forms of hurtfulness build up little by little. Each day another slight, another insult, another rejection. Sometimes we don't even know we are collecting hurt feelings until we begin to unravel and our behaviour changes in varied ways. Perhaps we become depressed, angry, oversensitive or even abusive to those around us. Sometimes we are so deeply entrenched in ourselves that forgiveness seems like the silliest solution to our problems. But in the end we learn forgiveness is the sweet sorrow of release. The comfortable burdens of anger are sometimes with us for so long we find their company comfortable and familiar. When we finally let them go, the relief is profoundly satisfying yet slightly frightening.
In concrete terms, forgiveness is the decision to let go of feelings of resentment towards the person(s) who inflicted the pain. Thoughts of revenge are allowed to fade away. To be clear, forgiveness does not mean relieving the other person's responsibility in their actions against you. It doesn't mean their act was any less important or hurtful. Forgiveness is simply moving on to peace and positive thinking. It is possible to forgive without excusing the act. What is the difference? Excusing a wrongful act means you allow the act, and are even ok with it happening again. Forgiveness is letting the anger go.
Sometimes in that moment of forgiveness there is a deep feeling of release. Particularly if we have held on to the rage and resentment for a long period of time, the instance of forgiveness can seem like an overwhelming relief. Our body will feel less stress, lowered blood pressure, less anxious, have more energy and reduced anger. Through letting go of those burdens we will find it easier to accept spiritual guidance. Depression and sadness will begin to fade as well.
So why is it so easy to get angry and stay angry? Why do we hold grudges? Reaction to a hurtful event is natural. In fact not reacting is unnatural and shows signs of repressed feelings. The difference between a reaction and holding a grudge is in the allowance of negative feelings to overtake the positive feelings. If you are always negative, the people around you will feel bad and angry. Then a vicious cycle has begun. There is an old Buddhist proverb about anger: "Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned."
To decide to forgive is to decide to commit to a process of change. To forgive a wrong is to move away from living life as a victim and take back control of your life. By not letting the anger to continue controlling your thoughts, feelings, and actions, you are redefining your life. A new perspective will be gained, one that includes empathy, understanding, patience and love. Do not dwell on the time spent in the anger, focus on the life ahead.
Poet Robert Browning, husband to Elizabeth Barrett Browning, said "Good, to forgive; Best to forget." Sometimes, in this modern day of progressive thinking, we assume forgive and forget go hand in hand. One must forget to forgive and vice versa. The power of forgiveness is in letting the anger go, bringing peace and happiness to your life. No one can instantly forget an event that was hurtful, and nor should they. That instance of pain and all the repercussions of it are learning experiences. As forgiveness evolves, the moment in question will fade away but it will not be forgotten. Anger will dissolve, resentment will wane and healing will progress.
To forgive a person for their wrongs does not mean they are obligated, or even able to change their hurtful ways. One hopes change will come, but the purpose of forgiveness is wholly for oneself. We cannot change another person, just as we could not decide to forgive until we were ready. Extend the olive branch, but do not expect it to be taken.

Letting go of the Past
Letting go of the past may be difficult but it is the best way to be able to move forward in life. As mere mortals, we struggle to let go of those bad situations and those negative emotions and events can overshadow all of the good things in life. We have to remember that the past is over and done with. There is only the present and we have to make the best of it. If we only focus on the past, we will not be able to grow as individuals. Worse, the past with all of its negativities can wreak havoc with our emotional and physical health too. You will no doubt have experienced times where it was difficult to manage your emotions and your own health felt less than adequate. It’s a slippery slope where the past can encroach painfully on the present.
Of course not all events from our pasts are harmful or destructive, but it is the times when you have been emotionally hurt through the actions of someone else or, through making a terrible mistake, that are the powerfully damaging occurrences, leading to significant trauma on a psychological and emotional level. Letting go of the past doesn’t mean letting go of experiences, but recognizing that it had its day and being ready to move on and embracing the future.
Frenee Dellossa, author of, ‘Free Your Mind Right Now,’ states that, ‘our minds are like a computer. Every life experience, good or bad, is kept within its confines and stays there. When life intrudes or a situation arises that reminds us of the past, what comes to the fore is what we already know. It will start the mind rolling again and it reverts to the experience of the past.’
If this is the case, this means that we are forever in a trap of unlimitless repetition and it will quite literally stunt our growth unless we make significant changes.
Frenee also believes that, ‘If we dwell on it, the same scenario can influence our thought processes and distort our thinking. It will set you back instead of helping you to move forward. It’s worse if it’s something that you fear. Realize that whatever you fear comes true. That is how strong fear is.’
There is no magic wand to learning to let go. It’s a case of making that conscious decision to make positive changes in your life instead of holding on to a past that is fraught with emotional turmoil. Sadly, we are what we have experienced, so embracing a new way of living can be instrumental to a healthier, happier life.
Typically, we are hard on ourselves. But the best thing that we can do is to try and forgive ourselves for any mistakes we have made, for example, poor choices that might have turned sour. It is just life. If you can learn to forgive yourself, you can eventually move onto forgiving others and this is the most powerful self-healing tool you can access.

Ten Powerful Keys to Healing Yourself
Live in the now. The past is gone. You can never go back and make it right. You can never re-live a life that was yesterday. Live positively in the present moment, no matter what is occurring. It is All right and perfect. Do not look ahead and dread what may come. Our mind creates a lot of chatter and makes us afraid in order to keep us safe. Tell your mind "Thanks for sharing" and affirm "I am here, I am present". You are always at choice and you know how to make this day beautiful.
2. Nature
Sit on the lawn or next to a tree. Feel the pulse of the earth, the grandeur of the sky, the coolness of the breeze on your face, or the warmth of the sun on your face. Smile at nature, say hello to the bugs and all the animals you meet. Take a walk in a park or hike on a trail.
3. Exercise
Daily exercise gives you a break from ! your mind chatter, helps pump your heart, circulates your blood, clears toxins from your body, charges you with energy and has many other benefits. Choose an activity that is fun and mix it up. Do walking one day and yoga another day. Take a Tai Chi class and meet new people. The list of possibilities is endless.
4. Spirituality
Recognize and know you are important and unique. Meditate, or sit quietly, and be in the moment. Read books that are uplifting and have positive messages. Give thanks for your health, your home, your friends, all the joy and happiness in your life and all the good that surrounds you.
5. Forgiveness
It is time to let it go. Forgive all parts of yourself to be whole and perfect. Forgive yourself for any past mistakes or shortcomings; forgive the child within for being afraid; forgive the teenager that spoke words of anger; forgive the young adult for not being a risk taker. Forgive others in the past. Forgive your parents, your siblings and relatives. Let go of all grudges. Forgiveness is about coming to peace within yourself.
6. Bubble Bath
Give yourself permission to relax and savor quiet times. Read a book for fun. Spend that extra money and get a massage or a facial. Do something selfish for yourself.

18 Mother Teresa Quotes to Celebrate the Life of an Extraordinary Woman
When choosing words of wisdom to live by, you can't go wrong with Mother Teresa quotes. After all, she was one of the most remarkable women to ever walk the earth. We can learn a lot from her kindness, patience, generosity and gentleness of spirit. These 18 Mother Teresa quotes are perfect examples of why this woman was so special and how many of us can learn from her example.
1. "It is not the magnitude of our actions but the amount of love that is put into them that matters."
2. "Everybody today seems to be in such a terrible rush, anxious for greater developments and greater riches and so on, so that children have very little time for their parents. Parents have very little time for each other, and in the home begins the disruption of peace of the world."
3. "I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love."
4. "We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop."
5. "If we really want to love we must learn how to forgive."
6. "We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature - trees, flowers, grass- grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence... We need silence to be able to touch souls."
7. "Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God's kindness: kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile."
8. "There is more hunger in the world for love and appreciation in this world than for bread."
9. "Let us not be satisfied with just giving money. Money is not enough, money can be got, but they need your hearts to love them. So, spread your love everywhere you go."
10. "Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies."
11. "Everytime you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing."
12. "I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish that He didn't trust me so much."
13. "I want you to be concerned about your next door neighbor. Do you know your next door neighbor?"
14. "Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless."
15. "We, the unwilling, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much, for so long, with so little,we are now qualified to do anything with nothing."
16. "God doesn't require us to succeed; he only requires that you try."
17. "People are generally irrational, unreasonable and selfish. They deserve to be loved, anyway."
18. "Despite giving your best to the world, you may be kicked in the teeth. Give the best you've got anyway."
It is evident from the wisdom in her words that Mother Teresa was truly a gift to the world. If only the world would live by her wisdom, it would finally be a loving and peaceful place where humanity could enjoy a Utopian existence. If there are any quotes to live by, Mother Teresa quotes are most definitely at the top of that list.

Conducting a Scientific Experiment on Yourself
I am probably the farthest thing from a scientist and definitely have tremendous respect for those who can work that side of the brain, particularly since as a motivational speaker I don't. What I admire about scientists and many left brainers for that matter is how they draw conclusions. They don't work much with feelings like us right brainers do, they work more with facts.
Recently, I spoke to a group of students at a large university about the danger of negative self-talk. (If you've ever seen me speak, you've probably heard all about the "mental heckler.") So many of these college students doubt their ability to compete at this high level institution. They fear the intense workload and sometimes question their social skills. Regardless of the fact that most of these students have already achieved academic success, many of them still feel very insecure.
Scientists form hypotheses and don't draw conclusions based on their feelings. They use a proven systematic approach of gathering facts to obtain the truth. The first step is to conduct the experiment and then analyze the data. Once the data has been thoroughly analyzed, a conclusion is drawn. In other words, instead of accepting their premonitions as absolute truth, they take action with an outcome in mind, and wait to see what happens.
I think that's a great way for us to measure ourselves. We need to approach life like it's a scientific experiment. We do so by putting ourselves out there, pursue goals with everything we've got in us, and then see what happens next. By doing this we'll be able to see the real truth in our ability.
Do you think you're not good enough? Do you think possibly you'll get rejected? Or for that matter just fail all together? Prove it. Conduct your own scientific experiment. Take action and get the facts.
My hypothesis: You're much better than you think. Start today pursuing your goals without any fear of the outcome and without any negative self-talk to steer you in the wrong direction. By conducting a scientific experiment on yourself based on facts and not personal feelings or hang-ups, you can better assess who you are and where you need to be based on your ability level. Don't be your own worst enemy or your own worst critic, be forgiving of yourself and confident in your abilities and watch what happens next.

How To Improve Self Esteem - Seven Steps To Be More Confident About Yourself
In the simplest sense, self esteem is how we feel about who we are. Self esteem is not something that we inherit from our mom and dad or something that we have the moment we are conceived. We all want to live a happy and successful life; but this is easier said than done, especially for people who are afflicted with low self esteem. Good thing there are things we can do to improve our self esteem. However, you can't just improve your self esteem right away, it is a long and often challenging process that needs commitment. Here are seven steps on how to improve self esteem:
Step 1
Have a realistic appraisal of life's problems. You have to have a realistic evaluation of your problems so you can find the correct solutions for them. For example, common sources of stress like traffic and long lines in the cafe are not really problems unless you perceive them as such. You need to accept the fact that life is and will never be perfect--it will always come with hassles, dilemmas and challenges. If you are able to see things in a realistic perspective, you will be able to face problems and challenges more effectively.
Step 2
Don't compare yourself with others. Inasmuch as you are more talented or gifted than others, there are also others who have more than what you have. You will find yourself feeling short very often if you keep on playing the comparison game.
Step 3
Stop being your own worst critic. You cannot develop high self-esteem if you repeat negative phrases about yourself and your abilities. Rather, fill your head with positive statements and affirmations. Whenever you say positive affirmations, you allow yourself to experience positive and motivating feelings. Whether speaking about your appearance, your career, your relationships, your financial situation, or any other aspects of your life, avoid self-deprecating comments. You should be your biggest fan!
Step 4
Point out the things that make you feel bad about yourself. Take heed of what your triggers are and try to avoid them or better yet, learn ways to better cope with them. For example, if it is the way you look that is causing you to feel bad about yourself, take measures to improve it--go to the gym and dress well.
Step 5
Associate with positive, encouraging people. If you form friendships with people who are pessimistic and controlling, you are likely going to feel bad about yourself most of the time. On the other hand, your self esteem is sure to improve if you are constantly in the company of people who encourage you all the time and accept you for who you are.
Step 6
Take action! You will not get anywhere if you just keep on thinking about your self esteem issues. When you act--whatever the ensuing result, you will feel better about yourself. If you let your fears keep you from achieving what you want, you will end up feeling disappointed with yourself.
Step 7
Be forgiving when all your plans do not succeed. Each of us falls short sometimes, but rather than focusing on the negative aspects, learn to readjust your goals so that you have a better chance of meeting them. Just look at each failure as a stepping stone towards reaching your goal.
Not a lot of people are aware of how much impact low self esteem can have on a person's life. The good thing is, our self esteem is not carved in stone--we can change and improve the way we feel about ourselves if we want to. I hope these simple tips on how to improve self esteem has helped you in some way.

Why Forgiveness is Crucial to Your Happiness
So there you have it - emotional baggage is an unavoidable part of all of our lives - but it's not actually this that is the real cause of unhappiness in your life. What's really important is how you choose to deal with that baggage, because what you do here will determine the success or failure of your future relationships.. Now, there is another very important point I want to make:
Now, given that every experience we have is a lesson for us, think about the people who have hurt you in the past. Have you allowed yourself to forgive them? Or are you still holding into the emotional pain? Do you find yourself conjuring up scenes of "sweet revenge" in your mind, or worse still, acting out those scenes? Are you able to forgive and let go? If you are not, then who holds the power - you or them?
Hanging on to feelings of resentment, hatred or anger, will ensure that these destructive feelings WILL spill over into your current life and stop you from enjoying positive, successful relationships with other people.
The fact is, your subconscious mind never ignores negative energy and emotions. It will remind you every day that you need to deal with them, and until you do, it will manifest your unresolved emotional pain through insomnia, chronic physical pain and in extreme cases, through life threatening illness. So there it is; make a decision today to take back your life by practising forgiveness. Your energy is extremely precious so don't allow yourself to give it away to those who don't deserve to have it it! Move on with your life today, and you will experience miracles.
